A little history on the aging life care profession: It all started here in New York City 35 years ago when two social workers and visionaries, Adele Elkind and Leonie Nowitz, recognized that families needed a more holistic, community and client-centered approach to solving aging challenges. They knew the value of strict codes of ethics and professional standards and became aware of other nurses and social workers around the country who were yearning for a similar model of care. The first meeting of the National Association of Professional Geriatric Care Managers (NAPGCM) happened in New York City in 1985 with 100 care managers in attendance. Today, NAPGCM is now the Aging Life Care Association® (ALCA), and has close to 2,000 members and has regional chapters all around the country. For families, finding a qualified Aging Life Care Professional® has never been easier. Simply log onto the ALCA website and do a zip code search and you will have a host of quality professionals at your fingertips who are ready to assist you.

Serving on the ALCA national board and locally as the vice president of the New York chapter is my way of giving back to this terrific organization that has supported and inspired me. Care management is often complex and challenging work and our care managers at HealthSense strive to make a positive difference in our clients’ lives each and every day. We take pride in being able to solve problems, relieve stress and deliver peace of mind. We are deeply honored and humbled to those families who have placed their trust in us to help them navigate through their unique journeys. We feel joy when we empower seniors and their families to thrive.

Happy Aging Life Care Month from all of us at HealthSense!
