New York, NY June 19, 2020: Anne Sansevero CEO & Founder of HealthSense, a care management consulting company with a cognitive enrichment division MindSense, and Liz Hamburg CEO & Founder of Candoo Tech providing tech support and training specifically designed for older adults have announced a formal collaboration together to bring online cognitive enrichment programs to older adults nationwide.
Studies show that social isolation increases the risk of early death by 29%. According to a Carnegie Mellon study, people who are socially connected have stronger immune systems and can slow the progression of cognitive decline over time.
HealthSense and Candoo have been providing services to keep socially isolated adults connected and independent and their joint missions came into sharp focus during the Covid-19 pandemic. Together, they will be offering families the option of combining one-on-one tailored online cognitive enrichment activities with personalized technology support to stay better connected and independent.
For example, Bill G. has been a MindSense client. He is a widower in his late 80’s, living alone, with a part-time health aide. Candoo Tech set up a new iPad for Bill and consulted with MindSense about what activities Bill would enjoy. Bill loved going to the opera with his late wife, so a Candoo Tech Concierge loaded opera videos onto the iPad and gave Bill a lesson on how to watch them. The aide reported that Bill was moved to tears when he watched his first opera after more than a year.
“We are both committed to tackling the scourge of social isolation” says Sansevero. “Our elders deserve to be a part of the global interconnected world. Right now, with social distancing being the new normal, having the ability to video chat with loved ones, explore the arts virtually and participate in family activities is a lifeline until widespread in-person social interactions resume. Our collaboration with Candoo Tech ensures that MindSense clients are offered a full range of tiered support to stay connected including having turnkey hardware delivered with customized curated apps and programs ready to go.”
“Technology has gone from a ‘nice to have’ to a necessity during the pandemic,” says Hamburg. “We have seen clients as old as 105 learn to feel comfortable with and even excited by their technology with just a few remote lessons. Having the technology and knowing how to use it is not enough. It’s wonderful to see how creative the team at MindSense is—their ability to curate and customize content for each client has made a huge difference for so many families.”
MindSense is a cognitive enrichment program that promotes socialization and engagement through highly customized, individual one-on-one sessions. Through the power of intentional connection the program creates joyful moments and improves the quality of life of older adults and their families.
